So Ezra has had a girlfriend for most of this school year. Her name is Vivian and she is in the other Kindergarten class at their school. Vivian’s mom is a journalist, and she wrote a great piece about their relationship for today’s Bergen Record. It’s on the first page of their Op-Ed section. Well, Zaphod’s hair kept getting longer and longer, so we finally took him to the barbershop and got him his first haircut. This was back on October 11th, so you can basically tell that things have been busy since then. I’m just now getting around to posting these pics.
Zaphod took it all in stride. Althea sat in the chair with him, feeding him little chocolate chip cookies to keep him docile. Zaphod just sat in her lap quite happily while Tony fussed around him with the scissors. Now Zaphod looks like a little boy. Here’s a shot of Althea and Zaphod in the chair. Here it looks like he’s still deciding whether to freak out or not.

A good time was had by all who attended the young couples nuptuals.
Well, this year Ezra starts Kindergarten at the Learning Community Charter School here in Jersey City. I get the honor of taking him to school in the mornings while Althea brings Zeke to his Pre-K class at Dr. Michael Conti School (otherwise known as P.S. 5). I took some pictures of Ezra’s class doing their morning line-up ritual on the basketball courts. Here they are in all their cuteness. I also made a more extensive flickr set.
Ezra’s best friend is the one front and center in this line-up. They met on the playground over at Van Vorst Park when they were 3 or so, and just spontaneously decided to be best friends. We were very excited when we found out that he would be in Ezra’s class. Here’s another photo of them mugging for the camera with 2 more classmates.
I made a Jib-Jab video of Ezra, Zeke and Zaphod bustin’ loose with the fresh moves, yo.
This picture was taken on the same day as the sailboat visit in the previous post. Keyport threw a centennial celebration that included a carnival in the evening. The boys went wild. Zeke’s expression in this shot alone was worth the effort.
We took the boys to visit my parents on their sailboat on its mooring at the Keyport Yacht Club. Although we weren’t able to take the boat out for a real sail around the bay, Dad did load the boys into the dinghy for some brief expeditions, and they all enjoyed rides on the KYC launch. Here are some of the day’s best shots.

Here’s a picture of Zaphod, taken as he is being lifted out of the birthing pool. I like to think that he is saying, “I’m alive! Aaaaaaaaallllllliiiiiiiivvvvvvvvveeeeeee!!!” Maybe with some thunder and lightning…
I went back to work today. We’ll see if the blog survives.
